Kayakoy is a small, picturesque village in Southern Turkey. Formerly inhabited by Greeks under the name Levissi (Karmylassos), it is now an off-the-beaten-path place where you can enjoy outdoor sports, nature and history along with workshops in handicrafts, cookery, painting etc.

The 'ghost town' consisting of Greek houses that were abandoned during the exchange of populations in 1923 was the original setting for Birds Without Wings by Louis de Bernieres. You can easily spend a day walking among the ruined houses or horse riding along walled pathways through the valley.

Kayakoy is a paradise for eco-friendly outdoor activities. Only 5 km away from the village, there is Gemile Beach and St. Nicholas Island which you can reach by boat or sea-kayak. Starting from the village there are numerous trekking routes of varying degrees of difficulty depending on how fit you are. Afkule Monastery on the way to Gemile Beach has breath-taking views of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.

Being a protected site, Kayakoy is not a place of mass tourism and still retains its village characteristics. Whilst offering the peace and quiet of a small village, it is also close to big tourist towns like Fethiye, Oludeniz and Hisaronu. So you can enjoy being in a village, wake up with the sound of roosters, eat fresh village produce, and  go out to party in one of those towns in order to experience touristic Turkish nightlife.

There are no five-star hotels in the village but a selection of accommodation from small pensions to boutique hotels and furnished villas for short or long stays can be found. In small, family-run restaurants, a wide range of international and Turkish cuisine can be found. Also in cookery workshops, you have the chance to improve your cooking skills and learn about Turkish cuisine.
